Thatcheria mirabilis Family : Raphitomidae The shell of the Thatcheria mirabilis, gastropod at home in the West Sea, is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful existing. They even say that its shape, pagoda style, has originated this oriental architecture. Typical to the Japanese islands of Honshu and Shikoku, where lives at 120-180 m of depth, is found also in Taiwan, the Philippines and in North-West Australia. Measures about 12 cm but very little is known on the anatomy and on the life of this mollusk that is likely to move on muddy bottoms of the circalittoral plane. The price has dropped but the legend continues © Giuseppe Mazza → To appreciate the biodiversity within the MOLLUSCS please click here.
