Family : Lycaenidae

The pretty Lycaena alciphron displays a remarkable sexual dimorphism. The male has a splendid auburn livery on the upper face of the wings, with characteristic violet reflections. The female has no reflections, more rounded wings and a softer colouring. Common in Europe in the hilly and mountain areas. The caterpillar nourishes of Rumes spp.
