‘Claire Austin’ belongs to that group of modern shrub roses, called English, created by David Austin, by crossing the modern roses with old varieties. They have the romantic look and the fragrance of the old roses, but unlike these ones, that blossom only in spring, they are again in bud after the cutting, during the whole vegetative period.
Honoured by David Austin in 2007 to his daughter Claire, it has a roundish shrub posture, arcuate, and can be 120 cm tall with about one metre of breadth.
Abundant medium green foliage, resistant to diseases, and rounded, cup-like flowers, with 41, and more, petals. When in bud they are lemon yellow and then shade to pearl white in delicate contrast with the heart of the growing flower.
Intense perfume with notes of myrrh, vanilla and heliotrope, according to the noses.
