The Venezuelan red howler (Alouatta seniculus), present from Colombia to Bolivia, has the amplest geographical distribution among the New World primates. It’s 50-70 cm long with a solid prehensile 49-75 cm long tail and spends almost all its life between the tall branches of the rainforest, looking for tender leaves, digested thanks to the symbiotic bacteria of its large intestine that occupies two thirds of the body.
