Ambystoma laterale Family : Ambystomatidae Native to Canada and USA, Ambystoma laterale is a small salamander with a thin 10-14 cm body, tail included. It spends long time underground going out at night to hunt worms, snails and small invertebrates in the woods litter. In spring, when rains are more copious and snow melts, it migrates to ephemeral ponds, without fish, that would eat eggs and tadpoles. The females lay even 500 eggs stuck to the submerged structures © Giuseppe Mazza → For general notions about Caudata please click here. → To appreciate the biodiversity within the SALAMANDERS please click here.
