Aequipecten flabellum Family : Pectinidae The Aequipecten flabellum is present along the Atlantic African coasts and considering its range cannot then be mistaken with the Mimachlamys sanguinea that lives in the Indopacific and is fixed with byssus to rocks or madrepores, whilst this species, with an about 5 cm shell, lives on the sandy seabed, resting on the right valve, ready to escape swimming beating the valves. They can be red, orange, yellow, pale violet or white, uniform or mottled with whitish spots.
